A new series of tunes begins 2024 with ‘Glory In Failure’. An electronic downtempo instrumental written through the usual strife of daily life. ‘Glory In Failure’ stood out in a bunch of 20 other tracks for having more emotion and memorability in its melodies. Four months passed and new-born twins made mixing this track difficult, but not impossible.

Featuring the first of a series of artworks from Jimmy Sommer on the cover art, each single through 2024 is an iteration through these unique creations, all of which will be available as t-shirts.

Ambient Encounters LP

Escape the monotony of purely beat-driven albums and take a journey through a soundscape of contrasting emotions and energies in Ambient Encounters.

This LP begins with three short ambient pieces. Every so often we encounter moments of electronica, glitch, dubstep and chill. As these beats pass we transition back into ambient again. These periods of “breathers” contrast between the beat-driven tracks, providing all the benefits that ambient does; cue to breathe, rest, reflect and generally letting go of tension.

This is a quality of any good ambient album, but Ambient Encounters isn’t a typical ambient album. Not only because it potentially has the occasional head-nodding, sub loving, glitch electronica material, but because some of the ambient pieces are more engaging than what might be considered to be admirably, completely mind-clearing, hour long, ambient music.

These short moments are more like snapshots of spaces, places, dreams and machine-like exchanges. Like the in-between days, the sleeps, and the way some days feel. Travelling through the modern world of wilderness and natural beauty, we inevitably encounter human activity. The adventure takes us on a walk into a ruin, a village, a town, an industrial estate, a city, the internet, and other people. Then we go back again.

1 hour 16 minutes.

This is the 5th Terrapastel album. This time utilising all the experience gained from the previous four. These brand new tracks were written, composed, produced and engineered within the past year. Start to finish, except ‘Cramped’, ‘Spun’, ‘ Like New’, ‘Draught’, and ‘Tour’ which began in 2021.

Working with tons of freshly made material, then picking the very best, while applying the techniques learned from the past two years, makes this LP stand out clearly from the catalogue. Musically and sonically this new direction should be noticeable in every way.

Album ‘Soluble’ out 19th December

Cover: Jimmy Sommer

25 weeks ago I was already plotting this album. It is loosely the forth volume in a series of four containing around 40 tracks of various electronic music styles, selected from about 200 tracks produced mostly in the past six years. Phew, but what does that matter? To answer the question: It doesn’t matter at all. Only the music does.

I couldn’t sit on these any longer. Only wanting to release quality music, coupled with the desire to release this big chunk of older tracks I was sitting on. There was only one solution: release them, and bring them up to date to sound great. The Journey began over a year ago with the first release ‘Ambient Pastel’. Which wasn’t really ambient, maybe one track was.

In all those 200 tracks it was mostly unusable rubbish. But there were a few gems, which I just had to have a play with to ‘fix’. Practicing finishing, mixing and engineering of the 40 odd tracks has definitely sharpened my skills. ‘Soluble’ is looking to be technically the best out of all of them.

Please give them a listen, decide for yourself and let me know what you think. Which are your favourite three tracks?
