Before the year 2024 began I had an idea, a plan, a project, a challenge, to release one track each month for the entire year 2024.
It was going quite well, reaching July and only missing one month. I thought I could catch up. The last track I release was in September 2024. Again, hopeful that I could still catch up, the work and deadlines were mounting up and became too much.
Still wanting to release 12 tunes in 2024, I could still succeed, maybe. Realistically to finish and release the final 5 tracks to bring the releases up to 12, I thought maybe I should release an EP early in 2025. Great idea right?
Well, you know what a better idea is? Starting a completely new side-quest that could maybe help me finish the original challenge, even though it might be late. MUCH later.
In October I got word from our Maya who founded our Wob40 collective that we would be doing a second Wob40 annual event on 28th February of 2025. SUDDENLY a new target transpired before me. An opportunity.
Why not make everything from now until the event at 140bpm. What if I make that the only rule for making all my productions. Plus, I didn’t really have enough of my own dubstep or material at 140bpm to play for an hour long DJ set. Sure I can play other producers stuff but this was a golden opportunity to make a load of new music.
Around this time I began live streaming almost all of my production sessions on TikTok and YouTube. Anyone could drop in on TikTok and watch my journey to making 140 beats and music to play at the 2nd Wob40 event.
4.5 months later, I arrived at Saith Seren, with more heads there than last year, to the same chill vibes, great producers, great DJs and music they played. I was happy with my set and got to play eleven of my tunes that were finished or close to being.
Since October I had begun over 40 tracks. The remaining 11 survived the discover and testing parts of the process.
TWO of the tracks are already signed and due for release on the 20th April 2025 on the Wob40 label. The other 9? That we will see. A lot of TikTok users are anticipating their release at some point. I don’t want to make them wait so will trickle them out over 2025.
But Terrapastel, what about those 5 tracks to finish the 2024 project?
The music I made from October to the end of 2024 is what will be coming out in 2025. Take your pick!
Seriously though, I learned a lot about that project. Like:
- Don’t release 1 track per month unless you have 12 tracks ready to release.
- Make tunes in batches over 4 months instead.
